Amazon Updates Kindle App To Bring New Features For Students And Readers

January 6, 2014
Amazon’s popular Kindle app for iOS devices has just been updated with new features that should please both students and general readers. In version 4.1, students can convert important terms from the X-Ray for Textbooks feature, or their own notes and highlights, into flashcard sets for studying. The feature is only for print replica textbooks, though. The updated app also offers improved in-book search for the same type of textbooks. As students type in the search box, the app offers suggestions based on words contained in the book. All readers should definitely be thrilled with the new notebook filters that can be used with bookmarks, notes, and highlights. That should make it easier to find annotations. Users can even go directly to the annotated passage for context. Now on the lower left page footer, readers can see either the page number or time left in the book. Tapping on the text will switch between the two options. With the update X-Ray feature, characters and terms can be sorted by relevance, alphabetically, or in order of appearance in the book. Finally, the dictionary interface has been update for iOS 7 to make it easier for readers to switch between alternate language and purchased dictionaries. A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Kindle can be downloaded now in the App Store for free.
