Apple's iOS 7.1 Beta 3 Broke Evasi0n7, But This Unofficial Update Provides A Fix

January 8, 2014

Apple launched iOS 7.1 beta 3 for registered iOS developers recently, making a number of relatively minor changes to its mobile OS. One problem for jailbreakers, however, is that iOS 7.1 beta 3 actually broke evasi0n7. But fret not, because if you updated to the prerelease software and can’t jailbreak your iDevice under iOS 7.1 beta 3, a modified version of evasi0n7 promises to help.

First off, it goes without saying that we’d not recommend readers to jailbreak using the following solution; the best course of action, if you’re a jailbreaker, is to avoid iOS 7.1 until official support is added to evasi0n7 from the evad3rs. It’s also important to stress that iOS 7.1 beta 3 indeed breaks the official evasi0n7 release as of this writing (the last official comment from the team concerning compatibility saw a fix released for iPad 2 users).

However, that being said iOS 7.1 beta 3 doesn’t patch the evasi0n7 jailbreak: it only breaks the jailbreak tool (though a full-on patch should appear in the final release of iOS 7.1). The aforementioned unofficial release of evasi0n7 for iOS 7.1 beta 3 therefore makes use of the same exploit in a modified piece of software.

In a recent article, iDownloadBlog went hands-on with the unofficial evasi0n7 release and found the software to work as advertised. People are always going to travel unsafe routes, especially when it comes to jailbreaking the latest possible iteration of Apple’s mobile OS, and the good news in this respect is that the aforementioned unofficial release of evasi0n7 appears to work - at least with the fifth-generation iPod touch.

But a word to the wise: if you’re a registered developer, for now be sure to choose one or the other - an evasi0n7 jailbreak, or iOS 7.1 beta 3 - because jailbreaking using the unofficial software is nevertheless risky business, even if it does do the job.
