Popular iOS Writing App Relaunched As PlainText 2 Under New Management
January 7, 2014
PlainText by Hog Bay Software is under new management.
In the release notes for the just-issued update to the app, Hog Bay Software has announced that PlainText has been acquired by Trips developer 433 Labs. As a result, PlainText will no longer be developed and will be removed from the App Store by the end of this week.
Fortunately, PlainText will not be entirely gone. That's because the highly rated app, which is included in AppAdvice's Dropbox Text Editors for iOS AppGuide and iPad Note Taking Apps AppList, has effectively been rereleased by 433 Labs as PlainText 2.
PlainText 2 is essentially a relaunched version of PlainText 2.0, which was released a couple of months ago. PlainText 2.0 introduced a new iOS 7-style design along with a new sharing panel, a new document info panel, a text-only editing screen, support for iOS 7′s Dynamic Type, and an edit mode for copying, moving, and deleting documents.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, PlainText 2 by 433 Labs is available now in the App Store for free.
For a limited time, all in-app-purchases are free in PlainText 2. These in-app purchases unlock the app's premium features, including passcode, live word count, extended keyboard, and ad removal.
