Cydia Tweak: Anode Is A New Theme That Can Match The Color Of Your iOS Device

February 5, 2014

There are plenty of jailbreak themes out there in the Cydia Store, but none of them promise to match the color of your iPhone or iPad – until now, that is. Because one new package called Anode does just that, offering three similar but different themes for each one of Apple’s colored iOS devices.

Powered by Jay Freeman’s (@saurik) free WinterBoard app, the theme is available to download free of charge in the Cydia Store and is optimized for both the iPhone and iPad (in two separate packages). Before downloading, you’ll need to have added the developer’s repository to the Cydia app – it’s http://cydia.myrepospace.com/anode – and once added, a quick search in the Cydia Store should bring you to Anode for iPhone and Anode for iPad.

If you don’t already have WinterBoard installed on your jailbroken iOS device, it’ll be bundled with the Anode package; after a reboot, you’ll find a new WinterBoard preferences pane in the Settings app, and here you can choose which Anode theme you’d like to install.

There are dedicated Anode themes for the iPhone 5s in spacey gray, silver and white, and gold and white, as well as themes for both the space gray iPad and the white and silver iPad. As per usual, enabling one or the other will require a respring, and this can be done from within WinterBoard’s preferences pane.

I’ve got a silver and white iPhone 5s, and this was the Anode theme I activated on my handset after installing the package. It looks … well, not great, in my opinion, but this could be a matter of taste.

Taste aside, one problem that jailbreak theme fans will be familiar with is support for third-party icons, and even though Anode supports 170 iOS app icons there were still a number of applications on my Home screen which weren’t supported by the package. These stood out dreadfully as a result.

Take a look:

If you’re interested, Anode for both the iPhone and iPad can be downloaded in the Cydia Store free of charge, and as mentioned, it requires WinterBoard.

How do you like the jailbreak theme?
