Google's Hangouts App Goes 2.0 With Full iPad Optimization Plus New Messaging Features

February 28, 2014
Google has just updated Hangouts, the official iOS app of its instant messaging and video chat platform, to version 2.0. Hangouts 2.0 brings optimizations for iOS 7 as well as full optimization for iPad, including picture-in-picture video calling. In addition, Hangouts 2.0 introduces several new features — long overdue ones, you might say, since these particular features have long been available in other popular messaging apps such as Line and Viber. There's support for animated stickers, and there's also the ability to record and send Vine-like video messages of up to 10 seconds in duration. The latest update to Hangouts also enables you to let your friends know where you are by sharing a map of your current location. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later, Hangouts 2.0 is available now in the App Store for free. Hangouts received its last major update last October. That update added support for voice calling, animated GIFs, and other improvements.
