Mojang Teases 'Significantly Bigger Worlds' For Minecraft - Pocket Edition

February 19, 2014
"Significantly bigger worlds" are coming to Minecraft - Pocket Edition. That's according to Mojang itself, the indie developer of the hugely popular Minecraft sandbox game. As noted by Polygon, Mojang has announced what's in store for the iOS and Android edition of Minecraft in a new blog post:
We’re working on restructuring a lot of code to allow significantly bigger worlds in future updates. We’re also updating the AI, inventory, and a bunch of other things. Unfortunately we don’t have a release date yet, but so far, everything is going to plan.
In addition, Mojang has announced that it will be suspending access to Pocket Realms on March 1 as it prepares for the upcoming launch of the service on PC. Released in alpha on Minecraft - Pocket Edition in June last year, Pocket Realms is a hosting service that allows players to work together on a single world via an online cooperative mode. Pocket Realms is expected to be back up later this year. If you've been testing the service, don't worry. "Your current worlds will be saved," Mojang notes, "and you’ll be able to continue from where you left off once Pocket Realms is back online." Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, Minecraft - Pocket Edition is available in the App Store for $6.99. Released in November 2011, Minecraft - Pocket Edition was the most downloaded paid app in the App Store in 2013.
