Apple Not Expected To Join 'Megapixel Horserace' With 2014 iPhones

March 20, 2014
Plenty of smartphones will ship with cameras of 13-megapixels and beyond this year. Apple’s iPhone, however, won’t be one of them. Cupertino is expected to “sit out on the megapixel horserace” with its 2014 phones, according to AppleInsider. Instead of bringing more megapixels to the “iPhone 6,” Apple is expected to tweak other image-enhancing components. “In other words, megapixels are less of a priority for Apple than overall image quality,” according to the report. Apple’s new iPhones will still get a megapixel bump. However, Apple is planning a “more conservative upgrade route.” Smartphones with 13+-megapixel cameras are likely to arrive soon from a number of companies, including Samsung, and numerous Chinese brands. Amazon’s long-rumored Kindle Phone could also arrive with plenty of megapixels. The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c come with an 8-megapixel iSight camera.
