The Classic RBI Baseball Game Series Is Set To Launch For iOS On April 10

March 8, 2014

Major League Baseball (MLB) has already announced that RBI Baseball is set to reappear at some point this year. Now, however, we're hearing that the classic video game is going to launch on April 10 for current-generation consoles and mobile devices – including iOS.

The original RBI Baseball NES game first launched in the United States back in 1988, and it was developed by Namco. There were a couple of sequels for the NES, as well as versions of RBI Baseball for the SEGA Mega Drive, Super NES, and others. Thanks to MLB, however, the game series is indeed set to be brought into the smartphone age in a brand new game.

Called RBI Baseball 14, the upcoming app will launch for Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Android on April 10. The news surfaced in a Twitter update from the ESPN correspondent Darren Rovell (@darrenrovel).

MLBAM has set its release date for R.B.I. Baseball. PS3 & Xbox 360 hits April 10, same for iOS and Android versions.

Besides this anticipated release date, however, little else concerning the upcoming game is known. We have heard that RBI Baseball 14 is being developed by MLB Advanced Media, “an in-house studio that creates entertainment products for MLB,” according to TouchArcade, but we're not sure how much it's going to retail for in the App Store once available.

We're hoping MLB offers a premium gaming experience with RBI Baseball 14 and doesn't push with the free-to-play model it's used for previous iOS game releases. We'll keep you updated with further information as we receive it.

In the meantime, for a slightly different baseball-themed game check out Zynga's Baseball Slam, which you can pick up free of charge in the App Store.
