Volvo, Mercedes-Benz Show Apple’s CarPlay In Action

March 3, 2014
Thanks to both Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, we’re getting a better idea of how Apple’s just announced CarPlay functionality will work. First up, Volvo posted an official ad to its YouTube channel that shows off the in-car display in the company’s new XC90 luxury SUV. Here’s the complete video. Click here if you can’t see it. The ad shows a number of features, including sending iMessages, accessing Apple Maps, and playing content from Spotify. And Mercedes-Benz, ahead of demoing its new C-Class at the Geneva Motor Show, also released a number of images showing CarPlay in action. Interestingly, the company also said it will offer compatibility with Android car solutions whenever they hit the market. Arriving later this year, Apple announced six initial partner manufacturers – Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Honda, Jaguar, and Hyundai. Twelve other carmakers have signed on to offer the functionality in the future. CarPlay itself should arrive with iOS version 7.1, which is slated to land sometime this month. You can find out more about the service on Apple’s site.
