Cydia Tweak: How To Unlock Your iPhone By Sliding Up On The Lock Screen

May 5, 2014

If you’re looking for a new, perhaps more intuitive means of unlocking a jailbroken iPhone, consider downloading and installing SlideUP2Unlock.

This new package can be picked up free of charge on the Cydia Store, and it’s optimized for iOS 7 and ARM64-devices. Once it’s running on your handset, users will find that a new preferences pane has been added to their built-in Settings app. Here, users can access SlideUP2Unlock’s options: there’s a kill-switch, a respring button, and a “Hide” toggle.

If the package is enabled with the “Hide” option unselected, then SlideUP2Unlock will add a “lock grabber” icon to the bottom of a handset’s Lock screen. From here, swiping up from the bottom of the Lock screen can be used as a gesture to unlock the smartphone, rather than the traditional “slide-to-unlock” mechanism.

This jailbreak tweak might not be to everyone’s taste, and there are a couple of stumbling blocks. Of course, if you’re protecting your iPhone using a passcode, password, or even Touch ID, then you’ll still need to provide authentication after the slide-up gesture has been performed.

The other problem with SlideUP2Unlock is that it replaces the slide-up shortcut for the Camera app entirely. This is a shortcut I personally use all the time, since it provides a quick and easy way for iPhone owners to launch the Camera app and shoot a couple of images on the fly.

Regardless, SlideUP2Unlock can be downloaded free of charge on the Cydia Store, and as mentioned, it’s optimized for iOS 7 and ARM64-devices.

If you’ve been looking to spice up the usual slide-to-unlock method using a new jailbreak tweak, this could be the package for you.
