Upcoming BBM Update To Feature Simpler Signup, Easier Friending And More
May 30, 2014
BlackBerry has just announced that it's set to release a significant update to BBM for iOS.
"This next release (v.2.2) is focused on streamlining key aspects of the BBM experience," BlackBerry notes in a new blog post. "Our goal was to make it simpler for new users to join the BBM community and to make it faster and easier to add new BBM contacts."
BBM 2.2 has been designed to include a simplified sign-up process, which requires only a name, an email address, and a password for a new user to get started with the service. Contrast this with the current setup, which involves filling out a number of fields.
The upcoming version of the popular messaging app also features a simplified friending process. This allows an invitee to simply click the link on the invitation email to be contacts with the inviter, thereby eliminating the need for the former to send a PIN invite back to the latter.
The update also introduces 16 new emoticons ("from a hotdog, and maracas, to a hacker and a pair of hot lips") and changes the name of the Updates tab to Feeds ("to better represent what you find there").
BBM 2.2 is expected to be released on iOS "in the coming days."
Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.0 or later, BBM is available in the App Store for free.
