The winning images from the 2014 iPhone Photography Awards have now been uploaded online, allowing iOS device users to check out the selection of breathtaking images captured using an iPhone handset.
Animals, landscapes, and close-up macro shots featured in the selection of shortlisted entries for this year's awards, and the winning of images -- which can be viewed at ippawards.com -- show how Apple's iPhone can be used to capture truly stunning photographs.
My personal favorite (above) is the winning entry in the "Animals" category. Other categories included architecture, children, flowers, food, landscape, nature, and panorama.
In order to enter the competition, your image or images had to be shot using an iPhone handset and edited using on-board software (like Instagram). As MacRumors notes, no external photo-editing software was allowed.
With iOS 8, Apple is set to further improve the built-in Camera application through the addition of a new "Time Lapse" photography mode. While iOS accessories have allowed iPhone owners to connect their handset up to a D-SLR, as the technology behind Apple's smartphone further improves it seems more people are going to lean on their iPhone as their camera of choice.
You can take a look at the full selection of images over at the iPhone Photography Awards website.
