Currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, the LaMetric definitely sounds like an interesting piece of technology. Billed as a real-time, smart display, the device can be completely programmed and managed with your iPhone.
Here’s a quick video about the project. Click here if you can’t see it.
The ticker can combine icons, scrolling text, sound, and more. The LaMetric team took a big dose of inspiration for the screen from the Nike FuelBand, and the results definitely look nice.
Setting up the device is quick and easy. After plugging it in, users open up the companion app to connect to Wi-Fi and set up widget rules. Interestingly, after initial setup, everything can be controlled from the LaMetric, if desired.
It is even compatible with the powerful IFTTT platform to open up a huge number of other possibilities. The device can also be integrated with connected home platforms like SmartThings.
Currently, for an early bird pledge of $129, you can snag a LaMetric without a battery. A ticker with battery is $10 more.
With 41 days left to go, the project has already well exceeded its original $69,000 goal. All hardware rewards are expected to ship in January 2015.
