Philips Posts Concept Of A Hue Notification Center Widget In iOS 8

June 5, 2014
One of the more interesting new features in iOS 8, which was officially unveiled earlier this week at the WWDC keynote, is Notification Center widgets. Available to third-party developers, the feature should allow users to have quicker access to information and control options. And earlier today on Twitter, Philips posted a concept prototype of an extension for its Hue lightning system in the Notification Center. As you can see from the image, the prototype gives users direct access to a number of different lighting scenes instead of having to open up the companion Hue app itself. That would make it much easier to interact with the system. During the keynote event, senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi showed off a number of other widgets, including bidding on an eBay auction and checking sports scores via the SportsCenter app. Apple announced that iOS 8 will be available to the public sometime this fall. A Hue starter pack, which includes three bulbs and a bridge, retails for $199.95 and can be purchased from a number of outlets, including Apple's online store.
