You’ll Soon Be Able To Borrow A Streaming Video From The Local Library Thanks To OverDrive

June 25, 2014
OverDrive is about to become more than just e-books and audiobooks. The company has just announced an agreement with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution to offer hundreds of popular streaming video titles. If you don’t know, OverDrive and its Media Console app for iOS devices allows users to read e-books and listen to audio titles checked out from their local library. More than 22,000 libraries worldwide use the service. For now, only libraries in the United States and Canada will be able to offer the movies. Some of the films libraries can lend include “I am Sam,” “Natural Born Killers,” “Insomnia,” and “Life as a House.” Just like with e-books and audiobooks, the specific libraries will set the user lending policies for the streaming video titles. A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, OverDrive Media Console can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. The last major update to the app arrived back in August. Version 3.0 featured an iOS 7 inspired look, cross-device syncing, and variable-speed audiobook playback. The app is also included in our Best Universal AudioBooks AppList and Apps for Book Lovers.
