Wink App Goes 2.0 With Support For More 'Smart Home' Products From More Brands

As announced a couple of weeks go, the "Instantly Connected" Wink app has been updated with support for more "smart home" products from more brands. Initially, the app enabled controls only of products co-branded by Wink developer Quirky and General Electric, including: the Aros air conditioner, the Refuel smart scale, the Pivot Power Genius power strip, the Egg Minder egg tray, the Nimbus digital dashboard, and the Spotter multipurpose sensor. But with its 2.0 update, Wink now works as well with other connected products from other top brands, including: lights, locks, thermostats, smoke alarms, cameras, sprinkler systems, and more from Bali, Dropcam, Honeywell, Kidde, Kwikset, Lutron, Leviton, Schlage, Philips, Quirky, Rachio, and TCP. What's more, Wink 2.0 boasts a new interface that lets you create shortcuts for quick access of your favorite settings, automating interactions between products using so-called "robots," and scheduling and monitoring any activity. Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later, Wink 2.0 is available now on the App Store for free. Note that while many products can already work with Wink right out of the box, some products, particularly ones that don't yet use the open Internet standard Wi-Fi, require the Wink Hub to get connected. The Wink Hub is available beginning today for $79 from Home Depot and Amazon.
