Yahoo Mail For iPad Updated With News, Search, Daily Info Snapshots And More
July 2, 2014
Yahoo has just issued a significant update to the official iOS app of its free email service, Yahoo Mail.
Late last April, Yahoo Mail was updated to version 3.0 with the addition of of news, search, weather, sports, stocks, and other bits of information to the app's iPhone edition. Now, the app has gone 3.1 with virtually the same improvements for its iPad edition.
Following closely after a similar update to the iPad edition of the flagship iOS app of Yahoo, Yahoo Mail 3.1 brings the following enhancements for iPad: news, search, and snapshots of the weather, sports scores, stocks, and popular videos and Flickr photos โ all in one place. Apparently, while most other companies tend to split the functionalities of their apps, Yahoo begs to differ by offering an aggregate of features in a single app.
The new Yahoo Mail for iPad notably features digital magazines including Yahoo Food, Yahoo Beauty, Yahoo Movies, Yahoo Tech, and Yahoo Travel. As we've previously explained:
Built using the technology gained by Yahoo from its $1.1 billion acquisition of Tumblr last year, digital magazines are publications that combine original articles from the company and posts licensed from other sites, enhanced with large photos and videos, viewable in an endless stream. Note, though, that this stream also contains native ads or sponsored posts.Digital magazines may be accessed on the News section right from the app's side panel. Also accessible from the same location is the Today section, which features daily information such as weather forecast, sports scores, stock quotes, and popular videos. The new version of Yahoo Mail also adds support for filters, enabling users to create, edit and delete mail filters. It also includes the usual bug fixes and performance improvements. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, Yahoo Mail 3.1 is available now on the App Store for free.
