United Airlines for iOS updated with trial feature for expedited international check-in

August 7, 2014
The American major airline United Airlines has just updated its official iOS app with a new trial feature in the form of expedited international check-in. With the new version of United Airlines for iOS, you can scan your passport for international check-in. If you already have your passport data stored on the airline's system, simply verify them upon check-in. Otherwise, you can scan your passport using the app. "Your device camera will be accessed, similar to many mobile banking deposit functions, and the scanned passport information will be verified for additional security," United Airlines notes. "Once the image is validated (and if no other travel documents are required), you will be able to complete your check-in and receive your boarding pass, saving you time at the airport." Note that while the new feature speeds up the international check-in process, it doesn't exempt you from going through the standard airport checks and presenting the necessary travel documents and other requirements. As this is a trial feature, you're encouraged to send your comments about it to United Airlines via the App Feedback link in the left menu of the app. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 6.0 or later, the new version of United Airlines is available now on the App Store for free. The updated app also contains some bug fixes, including a fix for extra flight status cards.
