Expect Retina-equipped iMacs at Apple's next media event

We’re still waiting patiently for a Retina display-equipped iMac computer, however if a new report has it right our wait may soon be over.

According to 9to5mac’s sources, “a new line of iMacs with ultra high-resolution Retina displays is in late testing stages within Apple.” As such, it could be Cupertino is gearing up to launch the long-awaited product line this fall, alongside its free OS X Yosemite software update.

Updates for iMovie and Final Cut Pro are also inbound, 9to5mac adds, explaining that support for 4K video editing will be incorporated within the software. A 12-inch MacBook Air with Retina display is also in Apple’s product pipeline, but the publication notes that a 2015 release is more likely.

Back in June, Apple updated its line of iMac computers but besides under-the-hood improvements, little else changed. Before this, we heard that Retina display-equipped iMacs were referenced in OS X Yosemite, and we suggested that an iMac with Retina display could hit Apple Store shelves before the end of the year.

The publication adds:

While all current signs indicate that a Retina iMac launch is fairly imminent, sources say that Apple tested a thicker Retina iMac in 2012 but ultimately tabled the launch due to a lack of panel supplies and pricing considerations. So perhaps there is a chance that type of delay could re-occur.
