Hyperlapse from Instagram update brings support for the front-facing camera and more

September 25, 2014

Instagram’s Hyperlapse app has just received its first update, making the move to version 1.1.

Easily the biggest improvement in the update is support for the front-facing camera. So get ready for a flood of time-lapse selfies.

The app will now also natively support the larger screen resolutions of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Hyperlapse from Instagram can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.

The app originally arrived back in late August. With special stabilization technology, users have been able to show off some spectacular videos.

In our original review, Daniel Celeste said that Instagram’s solution easily beats Apple’s own time-lapse mode found in the stock Camera app in iOS 8:

Given Hyperlapse’s strengths and the iOS 8 camera app’s drawbacks, Instagram’s latest release should be your go-to solution for time lapse photography now and in the future.

It was also named as our AppAdvice App of the Week shortly after its release.

During a recent episode of AppAdvice Daily, Robin Rhys also gave a hands-on look at how the app works.
