Walmart to offer discounts of at least $20 on Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
Last month, ahead of the unveiling of Apple’s new smartphones, Walmart begun offering discounts on the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. Now, just a day after the anticipated unveiling, the popular retail chain has announced its upcoming discounts on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.
The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus are scheduled for launch on Friday next week, Sept. 19, with preorders for them set to be accepted beginning this Friday, Sept. 12.
Without a carrier contract, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus retail at prices starting at $649 and $749, respectively. With a two-year contract, the smaller model starts at $199 and the larger one at $299.
Those are Apple’s official prices. But Walmart is set to offer at least $20 in discounts on the new handsets. As reported by CNET:
The big box retailer will begin selling the 16GB iPhone 6 for preorder on Friday, September 12, for $179. This deal is available on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint and is valid only with a two-year contract. Those people who preorder the smartphone will also receive a $15 e-gift card from Walmart when they pick up their device. The retailer will make the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus available on September 19 for $279.
Walmart is also set to offer a couple of dollars more in discounts at its Sam’s Club locations, where the 16GB iPhone 6 is priced at $177 and the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus at $277.
Apparently, only the 16GB variant of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are covered by Walmart’s upcoming markdown. Both devices come in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB versions.
As reported yesterday, Walmart rival Target has also announced its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus offers. It’s also set to begin accepting preorders for the devices on Sept. 12 and selling them on Sept. 19. But it’s also set to offer trade-in deals for older handsets with the following guaranteed minimum values: $200 for iPhone 5s, $100 for iPhone 5 or 5c, $75 for iPhone 4S, and $50 for iPhone 4.
