CarPlay-enabled car owners will heart the new version of iHeartRadio

October 24, 2014

Another popular music streaming service has jumped on the CarPlay bandwagon.

Three weeks ago, coinciding with the arrival of CarPlay in Pioneer’s in-dash multimedia receivers, Spotify was updated with support for Apple’s automobile dashboard standard. Rdio followed suit just last week.

Now, it’s iHeartRadio’s turn.

That’s right: Thanks to its latest update, iHeartRadio now also supports CarPlay. This means that you can now control iHeartRadio playback and access your custom music stations as well as live radio stations right from the built-in display in your CarPlay-enabled vehicle.

More apps are expected to support CarPlay soon, including MLB.com At Bat, Stitcher Radio, CBS Radio, and Apple’s own Music, Podcasts, and Beats Music apps.

The latest update to iHeartRadio also introduces a Today widget for the app, enabling you to play your recent stations directly from the Notification Center in iOS 8. It also delivers additional compatibility tweaks for the operating system.

The app was initially updated for iOS 8 a month ago, a few days after the release of the software update.

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later, iHeartRadio is available on the App Store for free.
