GoodReader gains new iCloud Drive file handling option, Touch ID support and more
The popular PDF annotation app GoodReader has received yet another update that brings significant new features and improvements.
GoodReader was previously updated about a month ago following the release of iOS 8 and the launch of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. As expected at that time, it was updated with optimizations for the larger screens of the new iPhones and support for new features in iOS 8, including Handoff and iCloud Drive integration.
For its part, the new GoodReader update adopts some iPad-specific features for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. These include a grid view for the file browser and a double-page layout and page rotation for PDF files.
With regard to iCloud Drive integration, GoodReader has been offering import and export options for iCloud Drive. And now, with its latest update, the app has gained an additional option for handling files from Apple’s iCloud-based file storage service: opening files without copying them into GoodReader’s local storage.
The latest update to GoodReader also adds support for a new feature in iOS 8. And it’s none other than Touch ID integration. If enabled in the app’s settings, this lets you unlock the entire protected app or its individual protected files and folders using your fingerprint.
The new version of GoodReader also features support for the Toshiba external drives Wireless SSD and Wireless Adapter. It also includes the following bug fixes:
- fixed an issue that prevented GoodReader folder from appearing in iCloud Drive on some Mac computers
- fixed an issue that kept the status bar visible during video playback
- fixed an issue that caused occasional crashes when writing typewriter notes with Korean font
