Twitter introduces new audio card for listening to music and more in its iOS app

October 17, 2014

Twitter has just introduced a new way to consume audio content directly from its iOS app: the Twitter Audio Card.

The Twitter Audio Card is a new type of media card that accompanies a tweet. It carries audio content that can be experienced directly from the timeline on the Twitter app for iOS.

Just tap an audio card on your timeline in Twitter for iOS to listen to its audio content right away. You can even continue browsing within the Twitter app while listening to the audio by docking the audio card.

The Twitter Audio Card is being rolled out by Twitter in partnership with third-party streaming services, the first being SoundCloud, which hosts a comprehensive catalog of music, podcasts, and other audio content types.

The launch of the Twitter Audio Card comes a couple of months after Twitter was discovered to be experimenting with a new minimized video playback window feature in Twitter for iOS.

Last month, Twitter introduced a new mobile shopping feature in its iPhone app and updated the app with revamped profiles, interactive notifications in iOS 8, and display optimizations for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Shortly after introducing the Twitter Audio Card today, Twitter posted a blog post regarding its experiments on the home timeline, saying that “each successful experiment, big or small, can make your Twitter experience simpler and more relevant to you.”
