Dasher Messenger launches friend-to-friend payment feature powered by Venmo

November 5, 2014

While Facebook is reportedly still testing it in its Messenger app, peer-to-peer money transfer has been launched in Dasher Messenger.

Now, in addition to messages, locations, links, and GIFs, money can be sent via Dasher with the app’s new friend-to-friend payment feature, which is powered by the popular mobile payments service Venmo.

“Say goodbye to IOUs,” says the Dasher team. “Dasher now supports friend-to-friend payments via Venmo. Simply tap the Pay button, key in how much money you’d like to send, and off it goes into the recipient’s account.”

As noted by TechCrunch, neither Dasher nor Venmo makes money from the transactions, meaning neither sender nor recipient has to worry about any fees.

The feature is also set to initially support small payment amounts, as the Dasher team seeks to learn more about its usage among Dasher users. According to Dasher cofounder Jesse Boyes, it has been used for “coordinating lunch, drinks, splitting ride shares, and even on-the-ground service jobs like dog walking.”

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later, Dasher Messenger is available on the App Store for free.
