First major Swype keyboard update offers intelligent Emoji support and more

November 4, 2014

Popular alternative keyboard Swype has just received its first major update. Version 1.1 adds a trio of improvements.

Along with English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish, the keyboard now supports more than 20 other languages.

Swype also offers intuitive Emoji support. That means the keyboard will predict Emojis based on the words you enter and automatically offer suggestions on what to use.

Developer Nuance Communications is also introducing new keyboard layouts, including QWERTY, QWERTZ, and AZERTY. A new layout specifically designed for the iPad also arrives in the update. Tablet users can now enjoy all keyboard themes for free.

A universal app designed for both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Swype can be downloaded now on the App Store for $0.99.

If you’re interested in other third-party keyboards available for your iOS 8 devices, take a look at our recent AppList. Some of my favorites, along with Swype, include SwiftKey and TextExpander.

In a recent episode of AppAdvice Daily, our own Robin Rhys looked at some of the best keyboard options and discussed some of the privacy issues surrounding them.
