AOL releases Yo-like messaging app Pip for sending short preset messages
AOL has just released a new messaging app called Pip.
As reported by TechCrunch (a subsidiary of AOL), Pip is the first product released by AOL Alpha, a 20-person team within AOL that develops mobile-first apps.
Pip is similar to Yo in that it lets you send short preset messages in just a few taps. But in the case of Pip, the messages are more meaningful and more contextual than in Yo.
As noted by AOL:
Pip makes messaging so easy. It’s just a couple taps to instantly send useful notifications to your friends. You can send them a pip, tell them you’re running late, share your location (or ask for theirs), send them the weather, ask them to call you, or just check and see whether they’ve done that thing! Your friends instantly get what they need to know, and can respond back with just a tap.
AOL plans to update Pip with special packs of pips (e.g. a set for coworkers, another for romantic partners), that work in a similar manner to the stickers in messaging apps such as Line and Viber.
It also hints at the possibility of Pip popping up on the Apple Watch, to which the app’s preset messaging functionality is well suited.
