Facebook updates Rooms with push notifications, custom sounds and activity dashboard
Facebook has just issued the first major update to its topic-specific chatroom app, Rooms.
First and foremost, the update adds support for push notifications for Rooms. Available as a new option in the app’s settings section, this lets you receive an alert on your iOS device every time someone posts to a room you’re in.
The update also offers more room customization for room creators with the ability to choose a custom sound (from more than 50 options) for members to hear when they tap the like button. Already, Rooms lets users customize the look and feel of their rooms by setting a color and choosing an emoji for the like button, among other customization options.
The new version of Rooms also introduces the activity dashboard, which provides information on room activity, including total time spent in the room, and posts, comments, and likes over the past week.
Rooms was released by Facebook about a month ago. Shortly after its launch, it received an AppAdvice App of the Week honorable mention.
Just a week ago, Facebook released a standalone app dedicated to Facebook Groups.
