Apple takes aim at the iOS 8 Notification Center widget from popular text capture app Drafts 4

December 2, 2014

Apple has decided that yet another iOS 8 Notification Center widget needs to be modified.

Agile Tortoise’s Greg Pierce, developer of the popular text capture app Drafts 4, recently chimed in on Twitter:

As you can see in the image, removing those two buttons would make the widget useless. Pierce also went on to explain that other app widgets with a similar functionality might also need to be modified:

Drafts 4 landed on the App Store back in September. The $9.99 app, which is universal for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, is a great place for quick note taking and other text capturing. You can read more about the app in Christine Chan’s original review.

It was also named AppAdvice App of the Week shortly after its release.

This is far from the first time Apple has approved an app with a widget and then asked a developer to modify the functionality. Most recently, Apple asked that Neato remove the keyboard in its widget that allows users to quickly and easily enter a note and save it.

Currently, the app is still available to download from the App Store with the widget completely intact.

Back in late October, Apple decided that calculator widgets found in PCalc and other apps weren’t acceptable. But Apple quickly reversed course on that directive.
