Apple taps celebrated calligrapher to promote new West Lake store in China
Apple has posted a new video to promote the grand opening of one of its latest retail stores in China this weekend.
As reported last week, the new store, called West Lake store, is located in Hangzhou. The store is named after a popular lake in the city, whose natural beauty has influenced numerous artists throughout the history of the country.
Apple is set to officially open its upcoming West Lake store at 9 a.m. local time on Saturday, Jan. 24. And ahead of the store’s inauguration, the company has released a special promotional video.
As noted by MacRumors, the video shows the celebrated calligrapher Wang Dangling creating a mural of the Apple logo surrounded by various Chinese characters, which is then shown covering the soon-to-open West Lake store.
You can watch the video by clicking “观看影片” (“Watch video”) on the retail store’s webpage on Apple’s Chinese website.
A week after holding the grand opening of its West Lake store, Apple is scheduled to officially open its second store in Chongqing. Located in the Jeifangbei central business district, the store features Apple’s patented glass cylinder design, as used on Apple’s flagship store in Shanghai. Its doors are to set to welcome customers beginning at 10 a.m. local time on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Apple is currently operating four other stores in Shanghai, four more in Beijing, and one store each in Chengdu, Wuxi, Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, and Chongqing.
According to its retail chief, Angela Ahrendts, the company plans to open five new stores in China before the Chinese New Year this year, which falls on Feb. 19.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said in October last year that 25 additional stores would be launched within the next two years in the country, which is Apple’s most important growth market.
