Nickelodeon has just released the official iOS game of “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water,” a couple of weeks before the film comes out in theaters.

Similar in style to Despicable Me: Minion Rush and Subway Surfers, the game, called SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run, is a colorful and cheerful behind-the-back endless running game.

In the game, the precious Krabby Patty formula has been stolen, and it’s up to SpongeBob and Plankton to race to retrieve it.

SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run has you helping the overly optimistic title character as he runs through locations from the movie, including Bikini Bottom, Apocalyptic Bikini Bottom, and a real-world beach. It also lets you pick up power-ups and turn him into Super SpongeBob so that he knock everything out of his path.

Aside from running, the game allows you to go off the beaten path by flying with a jetpack, floating in a bubble, or having Plankton jump through SpongeBob’s crazy imagination.

Moreover, the game lets you unlock unique costumes for SpongeBob, turning him into a pirate, a Viking, a karate master, or even Mermaid Man.

SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run also features animation and voice-overs specially created for the game.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run is available now on the App Store for $3.99.

SpongeBob: Sponge on the Run is developed by Playside, the studio behind the endless rafter Catch the Ark and the reverse runner Boulder Jack.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is set to surface in theaters on Friday, Feb. 6.
