AgileBits’ 1Password for Mac updated with time-based one-time password support just like the iOS version

The popular 1Password for Mac has just received an update adding a very nice feature from the iOS version – time-based one-time password support.

In version 5.3, that can be used to provide passwords for many accounts with two-step verification like Dropbox and Tumblr. You can learn more about the feature here.

And if you’ve unlocked the Pro feature set on the iOS version, the one-time passwords will automatically sync between the two platforms.

In the updated version, users can now also start a FaceTime Audio or Skype call directly from the app. You’ll just need to click the numbers stored in identities.

Developer AgileBits has also added a number of custom fields like URL, email, address, one-time passwords, date, and month/year. In the Secure Notes feature, you can now add sections and custom fields.

All the changes can be found in the release notes.

You can download 1Password for Mac now in the Mac App Store for $49.99. You’ll need to be running any version of OS X Yosemite.

The iOS version, which is universal for both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. A $9.99 in-app purchase can unlock the Pro features.

If you’re interested in protecting your online life, I can highly recommend 1Password for both the Mac and iOS. Both apps are easy to use and really add a great layer of protection for your personal information.
