Parts from the Apple Watch’s Classic and Modern Buckle bands can connect any standard strap
If you’ve already received an Apple Watch with the Classic Buckle band, all you’ll need is a pentalobe screwdriver and a few extra minutes to connect any standard 22mm watchband.
Unbox Therapy recently posted a video that will walk you through the process. Click here if you can’t see it.
Basically, all you’re doing is disassembling the specific part of the band that connects to the Apple Watch and reconnecting your own standard strap. It looks relatively simple to do. You can find a pentalobe screwdriver for less than $1.50 on Amazon.com.
Just to note, this trick only works for the Classic or Modern Buckle bands. Currently, the $249 Modern Buckle is only for the 38mm watch and is listed as currently unavailable for shipping.
The Classic Buckle is available for both the smaller 38mm and larger 42mm versions of the device for $149. It can be ordered now directly from Apple’s online store with shipping estimated sometime this month.
And if you’re looking to spend less, or don’t have the Classic Buckle band, take a look at the Click accessory that can be preordered now starting at $24.99. It provides a third-party connector for standard watchbands. Orders should be shipping sometime in June.
