Yoink makes the usual drag-and-drop routine a cinch on your Mac

All Things Mac

Even though I enjoy using Apple’s Magic Trackpad on my Mac mini, the usual drag-and-drop routine can usually be, well, a real drag. I usually keep a number of different windows and desktops open to help me organize all of the different tasks I’m trying to accomplish.

When it’s time to move files between those locations, the process can sometimes be frustrating if you accidentally drop a specific file or folder in the wrong place. But an interesting app solution to that problem – Yoink – has just received a nice update.

While the app might have a funny name, it provides an enormously handy way of dealing with moving around different files. When you’re ready to move files with Yoink installed, a small transparent window will appear on the edge of the screen. After dragging the files to the temporary location, you’re free to easily navigate to your destination where the files belong.

You can even take a look at a quick preview of files on the sidebar.

And in version 3.1 of the app, developer Eternal Storms Software has added a number of improvements. Along with support for six new languages, the interface is nicer and has been cleaned up.

Other notable additions include improved support for the stock Calendar and Photos app. To help users learn about the software, a new Quick Tour provides some education on how the app works.

You can download Yoink now on the Mac App Store for $4.99. OS X Yosemite is recommended. If you’re interested in trying the app out, you can download a free, 15-day trial version here.

Even though its premise is simple, the app really does provide a unique way for Mac users to better handle files. Definitely check it out.
