A new Giphy update makes it easier to share fun GIFs with everyone

Giphy, the fun GIF sharing app, is busting out with an update to version 2.0.

The biggest change is that the app is no longer tied to just Facebook Messenger. You can share GIFs through SMS, Twitter, Facebook, or email. You can even save the photos to the Camera Roll or your clipboard.

Talking with TechCrunch, Giphy COO Adam Leibsohn said the company saw a strong response to its original app, which landed earlier this year:

“We saw amazing engagement and adoption of our standalone app,” explains Giphy COO Adam Leibsohn. “People were using it in clever ways to put GIFs in more places. It just made sense for us to build this out,” he says. “…We want to help people put GIFs in the places they want to use them most: social networks, messengers, text messages, emails, etc. So a search and sharing app makes sense.”

Along with the added sharing capabilities, version 2.0 also offers a number of other handy features. If you’re dealing with a slow Wi-Fi or cellular connection, you can turn off the auto-play feature for GIFs.

And iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus users can also take advantage of 3D Touch features in the app. A short press will give you a Peek into the GIF while a longer press will Pop it into the full screen.

The updated app also has a number of curated GIF collections to browse.

Selecting the menu on the bottom of the app will also bring up a number of fun GIF collections with both actions and reactions like smile, dancing, and crying.

While an add-on keyboard for the iPhone would sound like a natural addition for the app, there’s no word if that is in the cards.

The Giphy app is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.
