Ticket to Ride goes 2.0, adds cross-platform gaming and more
Ticket to Ride, the popular digitized board game for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad, has received a major update adding a range of new features for iOS gamers.
Chief among the changes, then, is support for asynchronous gaming. This, as the game’s developer (Days of Wonder, Inc.) explains, allows players to embark upon several Ticket to Ride games in parallel, turn by turn. The application will send out notifications when it’s your turn to play, allowing gamers to easily jump in and out of Ticket to Ride rounds on their mobile device.
However, that’s not all. Because alongside this feature, Days of Wonder has also added support for what it calls “true cross-platform” gaming:
start an asynchronous game on your iPhone and finish it in the evening on your home tablet, Mac or PC. “It’s your turn” notifications are supported across operating systems.
For real Ticket to Ride fans (gamers who regularly use the app on their iPhone, iPad, and Mac), this feature will be a real treat and it’s something we’re pleased to see launch in the update.
In terms of additional content, Ticket to Ride 2.0 adds a new vertical map for India. “The in-game user interface has been enhanced to support vertical maps. This also opens the road for future maps, since many expansions of the board game use the vertical format,” the application’s release notes add. In addition, a number of further changes have been made in the game’s 2.0 update, including:
- Reworked user Interface for online gaming: direct access from the Play panel, and new Buddies invitation system.
- Adaptive user interface: the user interface adapts itself automatically to the screen format and offers two display modes: one for small screens and one for large screens.
- New social features: with the “Share” button at the end of a game, post a very nice graphic detailed representation of your game.
Finally, the same version of Ticket to Ride now runs on both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad; users don’t need to switch between entirely different applications when moving from an iPhone to iPad (or vice versa).
So, you can download Ticket to Ride 2.0 on the App Store now; as mentioned, the application is opimized for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. It’s available for $6.99, and as I’m sure you’ll agree, there’s never been a better time to take the game for a spin.
