Turn any iPad Pro into a professional graphics tablet with the updated Astropad

Getting Stuff Done
December 21, 2015

While you might not have heard of Astropad, its premise is simple. Instead of needing an expensive, dedicated graphics tablet, users can simply fire up their iPad and use it to draw into any Mac program including Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, and many others.

Pencil perfect

With a new update to version 1.3, the app now offers full support for the iPad Pro and its high-resolution screen along with advanced Apple Pencil features.

While “early” support for the Apple Pencil arrived back in November, the most recent update provides tilt support, a better pressure curve, and better stroke quality.

Along with Apple’s device, you can also us a number of other styluses with the app like Pencil by FiftyThree, any Adonit device, Adobe Ink, and others.

Here’s a quick promo video that shows some of the new features in action. Click here if you can’t see it.

Just to note, the app can be used through a Wi-Fi network or via a USB connection to your Mac.

Wrap-up

Astropad is designed for the only the iPad, iPad mini, and iPad Pro. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for $19.99. You’ll also need to download and install the free Mac app directly from the Astropad site.

There is also a separate app for the iPhone – Astropad Mini that can be download on the App Store for free. With that app, you can even use your Apple Watch to create customizable shortcuts to control a Mac.

While Astropad is obviously targeted toward a specific professional use, this is definitely the type of experience that is tailor-made for the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.
