AOL's Vivv now lets you edit your existing photos with vivid splashes of color
Just over a month ago, AOL released an interesting photo and video editing app called Vivv. Now, the company has updated the app to version 2.0 with changes that include what appears at first to be something that runs counter to its main selling point, but is actually an expansion of its core feature.
What does Vivv do?Vivv is so named because it makes your photos and videos pop out with vivid colors by letting you isolate colors that you want to stand out while turning all other colors into their black-and-white counterparts.
To be sure, many other apps can already do that. But what makes Vivv a cut above the rest is that it lets you pick colors to isolate in real time, that is, while the photo or video is being taken, not after the image is taken.
What’s new in Vivv 2.0
But while that differentiator is indeed a neat concept, the ability to pick colors to isolate after the fact is apparently a highly requested feature of Vivv. Because that’s exactly what AOL has added to Vivv through the app’s first major update.
With Vivv 2.0, you can now edit your existing photos from your device’s library as well as the ones you’re currently taking within the app. (Editing already existing videos is still not supported, presumably because being able to do so poses a great deal of technical challenges.)
To start editing an already existing photo, tap the library button at the top right corner of the app’s camera screen. You can choose to further edit a photo from your Vivv library, or tap the bottom bar to go to an album and choose a photo from your device’s library.
When editing an existing photo, not only can you choose colors to isolate by using the picker tool, but you can also swipe to add colors to or remove colors from portions of the photo by using the new wand tool.
Vivv 2.0 also introduces a history tracker that lets you see the edits you’ve made and adjust each edit’s intensity or delete it altogether.
As before with images being captured, filters can also be applied when editing existing photos.

Vivv 2.0 is available now on the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 8.0 or later.
Vivv is a product of AOL Alpha, the eponymous company’s project lab — similar to Microsoft Garage, which has just released a new app in the form of the “hyper-relevant” industry-focused news app News Pro.
Other AOL Alpha products include the friend fave aggregator Starlike, the one-tap messaging app Pip, and the prediction sharing app Sage.
