Facebook rolls out its Live Video feature to all iPhone users in the United States
You no longer have to be famous, or lucky, to use Facebook’s Live Video feature. The social networking giant announced today that the feature has been rolled out to all iPhone users in the United States. It will be arriving worldwide “over the coming weeks.”
Facebook shared more on how to start a broadcast:
To share live video, tap on Update Status and then select the Live Video icon. You can write a quick description and choose the audience that you want to share with before going live. During your broadcast, you’ll see the number of live viewers, the names of friends who are tuning in and a real-time stream of comments. When you end your broadcast, it will be saved on your Timeline like any other video, which you can then delete or keep for your friends to watch later.
When watching a video, select the Subscribe button to get notified the next time the broadcaster goes live.
The feature was originally rolled out to famous users back in August in the Facebook Mentions app. A small number of non-famous users have been able to use the feature since December.
Live Video is similar to two other competing apps, Periscope and Meerkat.
Facebook is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and all iPad models. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.
