NHL for iOS updated to version 7.0 with video enhancements and Premium features
Hot on the heels of the 2016 All-Star Game, the National Hockey League (NHL) has updated its official iOS app, simply called NHL, to version 7.0 with a number of significant enhancements.
New design
First off, NHL for iOS has been revamped with a new and improved interface. Most notably, the app’s redesign lets you designate your favorite team for a personalized home screen experience on iPhone.
Also on iPhone, the updated app features team homepages with individual team scoreboards and information including schedules, news, team statistical leaders, tickets, official merchandise, rosters, and social media.
Video enhancements
NHL 7.0 also boasts several noteworthy video enhancements.
Of these, without a doubt the most interesting is support for 60fps HD streaming for live video. Note, though, that this is available only on iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPad.
On iPad running on iOS 9, NHL 7.0 also offers multitasking and picture-in-picture capabilities, allowing you to use other apps in conjunction with or outside of the NHL app.
Furthermore, NHL 7.0 includes a searchable video library, video and audio electronic programming guides, closed captioning for live video, videos for the Free Games of the Week, and inline video highlights in the new scoring summary carousel for the league-wide scoreboard.
NHL Premium
In addition to all of the above, NHL 7.0 introduces a new monthly subscription product called NHL Premium.
NHL Premium lets you watch the final minutes of every live out-of-market NHL game, including three-on-three overtimes and shootouts, and get extended highlight packages for every game.
Access to NHL Premium is offered for $2.99 monthly or for free as part of an NHL.TV subscription for $24.99 per month.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 8.0 or later, NHL 7.0 is available now on the App Store for free, with in-app purchases for NHL Premium and NHL.TV.
