Square's getting into small business in a big way with today's pair of major announcements.

Square, the mobile payments company, has just released an update to its popular universal app. Square 2.0 is available now and includes a number of customization features, particularly ones for the iPad.

iZettle is planning on releasing its own credit card reader in Sweden this June, which will provide Europeans with a reader that supports "smart cards" - chip enabled anti-fraud credit cards.

Later this year, Square will release a new iPhone credit card reader, which will feature improved security.

Visa Inc. has reportedly made an "unspecified investment" in Square. The investment was made in exchange for a seat on Square's board.

Days after Apple agreed to sell its credit card reader at each of its Retail Stores, Square’s main competitor has updated its payment app to make it universal. Now, Intuit’s GoPayment customers can accept payments on any of their iDevices.
