2017 iPads: Announced in March, Not Released Until May or June?

The 2017 iPads are likely to be announced in just a few weeks. However, two of the new tablets might not be released until later in the spring, according to Digitimes.

The report notes that Apple plans on announcing three new iPad Pros in March, including an all new 10.5-inch model, plus next-generation versions of the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Of these, only the 9.7-inch model will arrive in stores soon after the announcement. Launches for the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch models might be delayed until May or June, “thereby affecting first-quarter sales of supply chain makers.”

There’s no way to verify the validity of this report. Recent history, however, suggests it could be. It wasn’t that long ago when Apple would announce and release a new product at around the same time. That’s no longer the case.

Appl announced the first-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro in September 2015. However, it wasn’t until November when the product was released. Before this, the first Apple Watch was announced in October 2014, although it didn’t launch until the following April.

More recently, though Apple announced both the Apple AirPods and Beats X headphones in September 2016, neither arrived until many months later.

Finally, it’s also worth noting that Digitimes doesn’t mention the arrival of a “7.9-inch iPad Pro,” which has also been rumored in recent weeks.
