Voice Calling, Messaging Comes to the Amazon Alexa App with an Update
Hot on the heels of introducing the new Amazon Echo Show, the companion Amazon Alexa app has also been updated with a major new feature for any Echo user.
Using the app, you can call or message any Amazon Echo or Echo Dot.
Most importantly, version 2.0.2429 brings both voice calling and messaging capabilities.
You can call or message an Amazon Echo/Echo Dot or anyone else with the app installed. The app will need access to your address book to find people who have an Echo device or the Alexa app installed.
On the messaging side, users can send and receive text or a recording. As a nice touch, a voice message can be sent without actually calling the other user first.
When receiving a message, you’ll see a notification in the app and any Echo device will glow green.
Along with that nice new feature, the app itself is sporting a redesigned interface with three major sections – Home, Messaging, and Music. That makes navigating the app much easier and is a welcomed improvement.
The Amazon Alexa app is designed for both the iPhone and all iPad models. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.
