Amazon's Kindle Oasis is its thinnest Kindle, but also its most expensive
Amazon’s latest addition to the Kindle line, called the Kindle Oasis, is all about breaking records and milestones for the e-commerce giant. This new Kindle is Amazon’s lightest yet, and it’s also its brightest. It has the longest barrery life of any Kindle ever. But, at the same time, this is also Amazon’s most expensive e-reader, too.

It includes a special cover that features an integrated battery, and this boosts the Kindle Oasis’s battery life to span months, rather than weeks. This is a smart move for Amazon to make: the cover means the Oasis is able to offer enhanced battery life, while also cutting down on the thickness of the Kindle e-reader. This, you see, is indeed Amazon’s thinnest yet, and measures juust 0.13 inches at its thinnest point.
The Kindle Oasis also features a tapered handgrip that's supposed to make holding the e-reader more comfortable
The Kindle Oasis also features a tapered handgrip that’s supposed to make holding the e-reader more comfortable. And there are integrated buttons which allow users to turn the page with a press (there’s also a touchscreen display for page swiping, too).
It seems the Oasis rotates its display to match the hand you’re holding it with. This display, too, is also the brightest one Amazon’s produced for a Kindle: it includes 10 integrated LEDs, as opposed to the usual six.
The cover, though, seems to be Amazon’s biggest achievement here. As the company explains online:
Charge the device and cover simultaneously while snapped together and plugged in. When on the go, the cover will automatically recharge the device, giving you months of combined battery life. Plus, a new hibernation mode minimizes power consumption when your Kindle is inactive, extending battery life to its fullest capacity.
But all of this does come at a cost: at $290, the Kindle Oasis e-reader is more expensive than an iPad mini 2. As such, this is a premium e-book reader if ever there was one.
