Apple has officially received a license to test next-generation 5G wireless technology. That news was first discovered by DSLReports.
The technology will be tested at two locations near Milpitas, California. Testing will take no longer than one year. The license covers both the 28 and 39GHz bands that the FCC has previously approved for the technology.
5G service should offer vastly improved speed and connectivity for cellular-enabled devices like the iPhone and some iPad models.
It will be a few years, at the earliest, before we see 5G technology commonplace from both carriers and device manufacturers. T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon have already detailed plans for 5G service.
