Update: Apple confirmed to CNBC that there in no partnership with Hertz.
Apple is putting Hertz is the driver’s seat. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is teaming up with the rental car giant to help provide the Lexus RX450h vehicles being used to test self-driving software.
One of the Lexus RX450h used by Apple was recently spotted in California.

The iPhone maker is leasing Lexus RX450h sport-utility vehicles from Hertz’s Donlen fleet-management unit, according to documents released recently by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. When Apple received its license to test three autonomous vehicles from the state’s DMV in April, the documents listed Donlen as the lessor and Apple as the lessee.
After more than a year of speculation, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed earlier this month that Apple was working on self-driving car technology instead of building an entire car.
