Apple Releases iOS 10.1 With Portrait Mode for iPhone 7 Plus Users
After five beta versions, Apple has officially released iOS 10.1 to the general public. It can be downloaded now over-the-air or through iTunes and is available to all applicable iOS devices.
A new way to use the iPhone 7 Plus

The major new feature in the software is Portrait mode for iPhone 7 Plus users. Demonstrated at the special media event in September, the feature will automatically blur out the background while keeping the subject of the photo in focus. The look is also known as the bokeh effect.
Even though the name suggests its just for people, you can use the feature on pretty much anything including objects and pets. On screen directions will let you know if you need to move closer or further and if more light is necessary. While shots taken with the mode indoors look good, anything outdoors and well lit definitely looks amazing.
Apple also released new versions of watchOS and tvOS. The general public can now download watchOS 3.1 and tvOS 10.0.1. Both offer minor bug fixes with no outward facing improvements.
Apple Watch users can update their device by going to the companion iPhone app. Select the My Watch tab and then tap General and then Software Update.
Anyone with a fourth-generation Apple TV can update by heading to Settings, System, Software Update, and then Update Software. You can also have an new software automatically downloaded and installed on the device.
An important week
The software release starts a busy week for Apple.
On Tuesday, the company will announce the official earnings results from the fourth fiscal quarter of 2016. Once again, for the third straight quarter, iPhone sales are expected to drop compared to the same quarter in 2015.
And on Thursday, Apple has scheduled a special media event at its Cupertino, California. A number of new Macs are expected to be announced. Last week, my colleague Bryan M. Wolfe took a great look at what you should expect. As usual, we’ll be covering the event live.
Finally, the special Apple Watch Nike+ will land on Friday.
