Apple Releases iTunes 12.6 With 'Rent Once, Watch Anywhere' Feature

Apple's Software
March 21, 2017

Apple has just released iTunes 12.6 for the Mac. The major new feature is a “rent once, watch anywhere feature” compatible with tvOS 10.2 and iOS 10.3. The update can be downloaded now on the Mac App Store.

Previously, when renting a movie on a Mac, it could be transferred to an iOS device via USB. But once that happened, it was unavailable to view on the Mac until transferred back. Any movie rental on a iOS device or the Apple TV couldn’t be transferred to a new device.

Now, you’ll be able to watch a rental on any device you choose without issue.

Since the Mac App Store release notes specifically mention both tvOS 10.2 and iOS 10.3, which are currently in beta testing, expect that software to officially land soon – possibly as early as tomorrow. We’re also expecting Apple to release watchOS 3.2 soon.
