Apple Shows No Love for the Mac Pro or Mac mini
We’ve got some bad news for anyone holding out hope for a Mac Pro or Mac mini update. Apple didn’t announce a new model of either desktop machine during today’s special media event.
Waiting is the hardest part
The Mac Pro was first announced at WWDC 2013 and hit the market late that year.
On the high-end, the Mac Pro hasn’t been updated since late 2013. The entry level model – which retails for $2,999 – features 3.7GHz quad-core processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage.
The Mac mini situation is almost as bad. It was last updated a little more than two years ago. The line starts at $499 for a version with a 1.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 5,400 rpm 500GB hard drive. For $999, you can snag a model with a 2.8GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, and a 1TB Fusion Drive. A $699 version is also available.
Buyers will need to provide their own keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
While neither model was rumored for an update at today’s event, it would have been nice for Apple to surprise us for once. But oh well. Maybe next year. I’ll be toiling away on my souped-up late 2012 Mac mini for a bit longer.
