Google Maps Wants to Make Your Daily Commute a Little Easier

October 3, 2018

Nobody likes their daily commute to work, but Google Maps is bringing a number of new features to help make it just a little easier.

The major new addition is a commute tab in the app. Along with live traffic and transit information, you can see if the commute is going to be normal or if it will take longer due to an accident or other issue. You can also view alternate routes to go faster.

There is also a new feature for commuters that drive and use public transit. Users can view information about each leg of your journey and see an ETA for when you’ll arrive to work.

Public transportation users in 80 regions worldwide can also see exactly where their train or bus is in real time.

Finally, to add some music to the commute, users can access Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Music directly from the app.

Google Maps is designed for the iPhone and all iPad models. It can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.

All of the changes are rolling out for iOS devices sometime this week.

Late last month, Google Maps was updated to support Apple CarPlay. On the CarPlay display, users can add destinations like nearby restaurants or gas stations and more.
